Week 5 EOC: Modern Internet Problems

One main issue that we’re facing with modern internet today is privacy. I’m pretty sure that we’re all aware that privacy is pretty scarce when it comes to the internet. You never know when someone will come by and can completely hack your stuff.

“INTERNET PRIVACY is a murky, complicated issue full of conflicting interests, misinformation, innuendo and technology snafus. On the face of it, e-commerce companies and privacy advocates are locked in stalemate. Web sites want to know all they can about you; consumers generally want to share as little as possible.” -Bob Sullivan, nbcnews.com

Another issue of the modern internet is how addicted someone can be towards it. I know, there are lots of people like me who occasionally use the interwebs for a long period of time, but I’m talking about those who spend too much time socially on the web. As if they have turned the internet to their best friend.

“The majority of Internet addicts are consumed by playing games, experts say.”

One final issue of the modern internet is what someone can put on it. It can basically be someone’s free speech realm, saying whatever they want and not worry about what anyone has to say about it. This can be good if you want to vent about your bad day, but bad if someone wants to racial/illegal/explicit/etc. content on one’s webpage.

“Efforts to filter the Internet, no matter how noble they may seem, will always be incompatible with the principles of free expression.”
-Jillian C. York, nytimes.com
